Way back in 1981 my friend Bill stopped
by for a three day visit. One morning, coffee in hand, we walked into the garage where he noticed I had a few scraps
of PVC pipe laying around. He said, "come here, let me show you something."
He grabbed a
saw
from my workbench
and proceeded to cut the pipe into various lengths, which he then snapped together
to make a
bar stool frame. He did it in about 10 minutes. Bill
later confessed he'd been making

So I started fooling around creating all kinds of stuff with PVC... chairs,
tables, lamps, doll furniture, kids furniture,
toys, and the like. I was having a ball!
A few months later when I told my
wife I wanted to sell my PVC products "on the side," she nearly fell over with laughter.
Then three months after that I showed her the nice $6,368 in profits I had
socked away in the bank. Now it was my turn to chuckle.
Listen, I'm about the last person
you'd ever think could earn good money by making things with PVC pipe. I have no mechanical or technical skills to
speak of. I'm certainly no salesman. No wonder Judy laughed! But, happily, it was the beginning of a new,
profitable and fascinating
business. I call it my "money-hobby."
